Hey Reader,
I was sitting in front of my laptop, doing that thing where you open your inbox but don't really look at it.
There were names in there–past connections stashed into folders, people I admire, folks who had reached out before, potential collaborators. All I had to do was craft a note. Hit reply. Say hello. Reconnect.
But my fingers hovered, paralyzed. The familiar little noggin' gremlins started chattering: "What if you come off pushy?" "Is this just a veiled sales attempt?" "They probably don't want to hear from you."
So I closed the tab and told myself, Ya know what... I'll do it tomorrow.
This wasn’t the first time. Every time I set the intention to do more outreach in my business, I hit the same wall. Resistance. For weeks. A tightness in my chest. A swirl of stories that made it feel safer to stay silent.
The Messy → Magical Shift
Later that week, I found myself down an interweb tunnel of distraction reading about Picasso. How he'd paint the same subject over and over again, letting each attempt become a deeper expression of truth. He wasn’t trying to get it “right.” He was in relationship with the work. Exploring, layering, returning.
Hmmmm. Something clicked.
What if I approached outreach like that? Like a canvas. Like art. One brushstroke at a time. Not to manipulate or impress, but to express.
Not to close a deal... but to simply open a door.
Suddenly, "sales" wasn't the point. Connection was.
When I took the pressure off, the words flowed. The conversations felt warm, alive, mutual. I began my brushstrokes. Some people replied. Some didn’t. But every message felt like a step toward the kind of business I actually want to continue to build: one grounded in real, human, generous connection.
The invitation became: how can this conversation be its own work of art?
✨ 3 Soulful Outreach Shifts to Try
- Switch from pitching to presence. Before you hit send, pause. Ask: what do I genuinely appreciate or admire about this person? Start there. Let your message be a reflection of real energy, not an agenda.
- Make the conversation the win. Instead of measuring success by replies, bookings, or sales, let the act of reaching out be enough. Each message is a brushstroke that contributes to the bigger picture.
- Follow the energy, not the algorithm. Reach out to who lights you up, not who you "should." Soulful business is built on resonance. If someone inspires you, let them know. That spark is the strategy.
A Spark of Inspiration:
"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." — Pablo Picasso
You're not interrupting–you're inviting. Every outreach is a chance to co-create something meaningful, even if it never becomes a client relationship. You’re offering presence. Possibility. A human hello.
BTW, the art of connection might just apply to love and relationships, too.
💬 Your Turn
What's one conversation you could start today, not to get something, but to give a brushstroke of connection?
Give me the tea! I love to sip. ;)
