Hey Reader,
When a client of mine first heard me use the phrase “lead magnet,” she rolled her eyes, picturing a clunky PDF with a bland title like “10 Productivity Hacks for Boss Babes.” 🥴
She said she had previously downloaded a few, but they all sat unopened in her inbox like forgotten leftovers in the back of the fridge.
So wouldn't you know it, when it came time to create her own lead magnet, she froze.
What would she even offer?
Would anyone care?
Would it feel… scammy?
She admitted she spent a few days stuck in a ChatGPT spiral. Should it be a guide? A quiz? A video?
But when I asked her one simple question—
“What’s the one irresistible invitation you’re offering to new people who find you?”
She blinked.
“Um… book a free call?”
Here’s the thing, that can work, but only when someone’s already warm and interested. For the 99% of people who are still getting to know you, that’s asking too much, too soon.
What she needed was a bridge–a little “yes” to build trust and move people one step closer.
Enter: the lead magnet.
A lead magnet isn’t about showing off what you know. It’s about creating an experience that helps your dream client feel seen and take a tiny step closer to working with you.
The Messy → Magical Shift
Your lead magnet doesn’t have to be long, fancy, or perfect. It has to be aligned, valuable, and magnetic. The best lead magnets feel like a gift that says:
“I get you. Here’s a taste of what’s possible.”
When it’s crafted with intention, a simple lead magnet can…
- Attract the right people (and gently repel the wrong ones)
- Build trust and resonance faster than 20 social posts ever could
- Help someone say: “Wow, if this is free, I wonder what their paid offer is like…”
✨ 3 Steps to Create a Lead Magnet That Converts
1. Start With the After Feeling
Don’t begin with “what format should I make?”
Start with: What’s a transformation or moment of clarity your ideal client is craving?
What keeps them up at night?
What do they secretly search Google at night or harass ChatGPT about?
What’s a small win they could achieve with your guidance?
Build from there. Your lead magnet is a bridge from where they are, to a moment of hope, clarity, or momentum.
Examples:
“From Blank Page to First Sentence” for a writing coach
“Your First 3 Sales Calls Made Simple” for a sales mentor
“Your Magnetic Brand Voice Breakthrough” (hola, it me 🧡)
2. Make It Quick & Actionable
Attention spans are short, and no one wants homework.
Think 5–15 minutes max to consume and implement.
Great formats:
- 1-page cheat sheet
- 3-step guide
- Mini video or audio training
- Quiz with a juicy takeaway
Deliver ONE win. Don’t try to solve everything at once.
3. Embed a Clear Next Step
Your lead magnet should naturally lead to your paid offer. Not a hard pitch, just a thoughtful next invitation.
For example:
“Want to go deeper on this? Book a clarity call here.”
or
“Enjoyed this? My group program opens soon—get on the waitlist.”
The vibe is: “Here’s a gift, no strings—but if you liked this, there’s more.”
A Spark of Inspiration:
“When you learn, teach. When you get, give.”
— Maya Angelou
A simple lead magnet is one of the most beautiful ways to give what you’ve learned.
You’re not giving away your best stuff “for free.”
You’re showing what’s possible, and that’s priceless.
When you create from service and clarity, not fear or perfectionism, your work becomes magnetic.
Trust that the right people will feel it.
